  1. Prices Increased on Some Products

  3. Cupertino, California.  September 12, 1988.  Apple Computer, Inc. today
  4. announced that the company has increased prices for some of its personal
  5. computers, external drives, monitors, printers, and expansion kits.  According
  6. to Charles M. Boesenberg, Apple USA senior vice president of sales and
  7. marketing, the price increase is in response to rising component costs and
  8. changing global market conditions.

  10. "Industry developments have prompted Apple to reprice some of our products so
  11. they are more in line with today's market realities," Boesenberg said.  "To
  12. continue fulfilling the increasingly high demand for our products, we are
  13. required to pursue more costly channels for dynamic random access memory
  14. (DRAM) acquisition, thereby increasing the component costs of our products.

  16. "While we resisted these moves as long as possible--limiting previous price
  17. increases to memory expansion kits--current conditions make it necessary for
  18. us to reprice selected other products as well," Boesenberg added.

  20. The new pricing structure will be effective today, September 12, 1988. 
  21. Current and previous suggested retail prices for some Apple(R) computers,
  22. printers, and peripherals (including all affected by the repricing) are
  23. attached.
